Mister Bones' Top 5

Getting ready for the new Nightmare on Elm Street tonight in case you haven't noticed. Freddy has been terrorizing me since childhood, thanks to Phil Phil, and I fully intend to pass this particular brand of psychological torture along to my own children. Here are my picks for the top 5 ways to insure that your kids never sleep comfortably again!

Top 5 A Nightmare on Elm Street Films

5. Freddy's Revenge - Without a doubt the oddest of the bunch. The weirdness is what I dig about it though, Jesse's struggle with Freddy is definitely unlike anybody else's in the series. The pool party scene is the main attraction for me here, but there's other stuff to like as well. Freddy clawing his way out from inside Jesse, the infamous "you've got the body, I've got the brains" line, and who could forget the gym teacher/s&m enthusiast who gets pelted with tennis balls and beaten with jump ropes before getting sliced up? Weirdness I tells ya, but still better than the Dream Master.

4. Wes Craven's New Nightmare - This one I can honestly say I don't fall in line with the rest of the horror-loving world out there. I like it, but I don't love it. Freddy wears leather pants people. LEATHER PANTS. I dig the trench coat though. My two main gripes with this movie are minor nitpicks, but they annoy me nonetheless, first the kid, Nancy's kid annoys the shit out of me and goes a long way toward ruining the whole movie, and the other thing is Freddy's "glove" hand, I don't like the bone/flesh/claws combo, and the fifth claw just looks "off" to me. But I don't want to sound all negative, there's also plenty that I like here, and the concept is definitely cool, REALLY dig the talk show scene with Robert, and of course the funeral scene which takes the creepy level off the charts. Again, better than the Dream Master.

3. The Dream Child - How do you revive the franchise after an almost Joel Schumaker-esque debacle like the Dream Master? By giving fans one of the best in the series of course! The Dream Child is full of things to love, great nightmare scenes, deaths, Freddy still funny but in a much darker way, and a comic book guy. Super Freddy anybody? Great stuff. I also like the idea of using Alice's baby dreaming in the womb to allow Freddy to return, genius! Also worth noting is that Alice names the baby Jacob, and I just happen to know a Jacob of my own....don't tell his mother!

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street - Wes Craven's original and the one that introduced us all to Freddy. Elm Street is considered one of horror's most honored films, and for good reason. This movie absolutely scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. There are so many great scenes that it would be impossible to list them all here, and we all know them by heart anyway. Plus it's also the movie that introduced the world to Johnny Depp, and I think we all owe it a debt of gratitude for that, yes? I bought the blu-ray of this that just recently got released and it was almost like seeing it again for the first time, absolutely beautiful, and Tina's death scene in hd? *Shudder* The Dream Master's name shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as this original masterpiece.

1. The Dream Warriors - Ohhh the nightmares this movie gave me. You want to scar your children for life? Show them Phillip's death scene. Jesus this movie is just quality from start to finish. Easily the best nightmare sequences in the series, easily the best deaths in the series, and Freddy's animated skeleton vs a dude with a shovel! Plus snake-Freddy, "welcome to prime-time bitch", carving the message into Joey, and Patricia Arquette's debut! This one is also Freddy at his best in my opinion, he's funny but not at the expense of being terrifying. The jokes definitely take a back seat, Freddy is exactly the way I like him here. No blu-ray yet, but you best believe I'll be adding it to my library as soon as it does get released. Dream Master is the "Batman and Robin" to Dream Warriors "Dark Knight".

There ya go, the top 5 strolls down Elm Street. Anybody spot the pattern in there? I will probably be returning tomorrow for one more Freddy post as I'll undoubtedly have something to say about the new one, and then I promise I'll move on to something else. Until then, happy Elm Streeting everybody.

Infinite Playlist - Bones Attended a Concert Edition

Ok, here's an extended special edition of Mister Bones' Infinite Playlist! Seriously people, I can FEEL the enthusiasm through my monitor. I saw a total of five bands, one of which was a local opening act, the rest of which actually all pretty much kicked some ass of some sort or another.

The opening act was ok, I swear they were a Blink 182 cover band or something though. The first real band was Enter Shikari. Never heard of them, no idea what to expect but ended up really digging them. This song appears to be their most popular, and so far is my fave, "Sorry You're Not A Winner"....

Silverstein I wasn't excited about at all, but turns out that was because I thought they were another band, which sucked, so I was pleasantly surprised by them, and after the show grabbed a discography which I'm still listening to. So far I have a few faves, but right now I can't get enough of this song, "A Hero Loses Everyday"...

August Burns Red came *this* close to stealing the whole show. I really can't say enough about how impressed I was with them. I went in to the show with only a "like" status and came away in love. This is my favorite song on Messengers, "Marianas Trench"....

And finally, for the main event, the reason we all showed up...A Day to Remember! This song is particularly awesome at the 1:54 mark, so be sure to stick around at least that long, oh and a kid gets chokeslammed in this video, so you know you wanna watch for that too. Enjoy "I'm Made of Wax Larry, What are you Made of?"....

Random Screen Grab

Super Freddy!

Since U Been Gone pt 3

This one will be much shorter since u haven't been gone quite as long this time...

I can't hear you Atlanta!!! That's right, I attended my what has sadly become annual concert. Twiztid last April, this April it was A Day to Remember with August Burns Red, Silverstein, and a couple other bands. AdtR were great as expected, but holy hell August Burns Red know how to put on a show. They killed it, I thought the floor of the Masquerade was gonna give way for a minute there. It didn't though, and despite ringing ears for a couple of days, I'm happy to report that my old ass sustained no injuries from all the moshing and such. And yes I got myold ass in the middle of a mosh pit again, forgot how much fun that was. I only have one pic of me from the show, but I feel like it appropriately expresses what a good time I was having......

Playoffs baby! Oh that's right, Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing, and your truly has both cable AND the Vs. channel. My Flyers were literally the LAST team to make it in, and the FIRST team to advance to round two! Oh, you want to know who they played in round 1? Just a little team you may know from the Jersey area, go by the name of "Devils"...yeah them. AH HAHAHAHA! Almost, and I mean *almost* better than when Auburn beats Alabama right there. Round two starts as soon as the Canadiens/Capitals series ends, and I'm pulling HARD for the Habs, do not want to play Ovie in round two.

Darth Vader says....LET'S GO FLYERS!!!!

1.2 Freddy's coming for you....and ME! In case you don't have access to tv, internet, billboards, cellphones, and everywhere else it's been promoted, there's a new Nightmare on Elm Street in theaters this Friday. While I teased a bit about it the other day with my "thoughts on remakes", I am really excited about this movie. I prefer scary Freddy to funny Freddy, and the first movie was definitely terrifying when I was a kid. Hoping this new one is in the same vein, and traumatizes a new generation of little freaks like me. I can't wait to torture my son with it the way Phil Phil did with us. What? It runs in the family.

And that's all folks! Work is going good, this past month I've learned two more jobs, soft test and RF, and believe me when I tell you, I am an RF'ing MACHINE. Warped Tour is right around the corner and I'll be attending that to see Alesana, iwrestledabearonce, Pierce the Veil, and Sum 41, along with about 600 other bands that I've never heard of. Should be fun! Be here tomorrow for a special "Bones went to a concert" edition of the Infinte Playlist!

Infinite Playlist - 2 Many Bitches

I has the internets again, oh yes...I has it again. No time for a long, thought-out interesting post today, so I'll just leave you with something to ride to this weekend.

Enjoy "2 Many Bitches" from your friend and mine, Blaze Ya Dead Homie aka Colton Grundy the Undying!
